Yb:YAG is a promising material for diode-pumped, high-power lasers. It offers a broad absortion spectra, reducing the stability requirements of the pump diodes and a low quantum defect. The lifetime of the upper laser level is around 1 ms. Furthermore, the broad emissions spectrum enables the generation of ultra-short pico- and femtosecond pulses.
